Working End
The end of the rope you actively move while tying a knot.
The working end is the end of the rope used to form the knot. In instructions, it is the part you pass around, through or under other parts of the rope.
Leave enough working end to finish the knot with a sensible tail. A tail that is too short can make a knot easier to disturb.
