How to tie it

  1. Take the working end around the post or ring twice to make a round turn.
  2. Bring the working end around the standing part.
  3. Pass it through to form the first half hitch.
  4. Repeat the same move to form a second half hitch.
  5. Dress both hitches neatly and pull them snug against the round turn.

Common mistakes

  • Making only one turn around the anchor before tying the half hitches.
  • Leaving the half hitches loose or separated.
  • Tying around a sharp edge that can damage the rope.
