When not to use zip ties

Situations where zip ties are the wrong fixing or only a very temporary option. Before choosing a method, look at the material, the environment and what would happen if the fix failed.

• Outdoor ties need better sunlight resistance.
• A neat cut end is safer than a jagged tail.

Good habits

Work slowly, test on scrap or a hidden area where possible, and stop if the material starts to crack, crush, mark or move unexpectedly.

Safety note

Watch for sharp cut ends, UV degradation outdoors, crushed cables or plant stems, and overloading. Zip ties are not for heavy loads, electrical work beyond simple cable tidying, life-safety or structural use.
